Born and raised in Hong Kong, Margaret holds a BA from Wellesley College and an MFA in Dance from the University of Utah. She enjoyed a successful and happy career in dance until she moved to California where she began studying Fine Arts in the Academy of Art University's undergraduate department before transferring to the graduate program in painting in 2000. Four years later, she started to work and sell out of her own studio. Since then, Margaret has won awards in national and international art competitions, and regularly exhibits her work in galleries in the Bay Area as well as across the country. Additionally, her paintings are published in fine art books and magazines. She paints in oils predominantly and in all the genres - portraits/figure, landscape and still life - and believes that also working in other media - pastel, pen and ink and watercolor - help to keep her eye sharp and her approach fresh and immediate. Margaret is sought after for commissioned work, in which her sensitive attention to clients' needs has earned her a solid reputation. Visitors are welcome to her studio in Polk Gulch, San Francisco.
Margaret is a member of Oil Painters of America, American Impressionist Society, and the Portrait Society of America, where she served a term of three years as their Ambassador for California.
"i have admired margaret's artwork since i first saw examples of her portraits and landscapes almost 10 years ago. all of her work demonstrates her highly skilled classical training. she captures the likeness of her subjects exquisitely, with a warm modern sensibility. i've had the great pleasure to represent margaret's work in our gallery. i would strongly recommend her work to those considering a portrait commission or just a beautifully rendered piece of artwork. they will not be disappointed." - kathleen mcmahon fine art gallery
